From One Mother’s Struggle to a School That Serves a Community

Meet Fatin Obaid, Founder & Principal of Alnjoom School

When Fatin first arrived to Canada from Iraq, she came with a heart full of hope, a head full of dreams and one mission she couldn’t ignore: to give her children a future they could be proud of, without losing the language and faith that defined their past.

But as she settled into life in Mississauga, she quickly realized something was missing. While Canada opened many doors, there was no place where her children could truly learn Arabic and Islamic values in a way that felt meaningful, modern, and engaging. The options that existed were outdated or disconnected from how kids today actually learn.

Fatin searched. She asked. She tried. But nothing felt right.

So in 2014, driven by love for her children and her community, she built the very school she had been looking for and called it Alnjoom, meaning "The Stars" in Arabic. It was more than just a name. it was a vision: a place where every child could shine.

✨ Why She Started Alnjoom

Fatin’s goal was simple but powerful:
To create a school where Arab families in the GTA could send their children to learn Arabic and Islamic studies in a modern, joyful, and culturally rich environment.

She understood that language isn’t just a subject—it’s identity. It’s the link between generations, the doorway to understanding faith, and the bridge that connects our past to our future. For Fatin, preserving Arabic and Islamic values wasn’t optional—it was essential.

Alnjoom School was built to do exactly that—not with memorization and repetition, but with conversation, confidence, and connection. Today, it stands as a trusted name for Arab families across Mississauga and the GTA.

💫 A School Built on Hope, Love, and Legacy

Alnjoom School isn’t just a business, it’s a legacy. It’s Fatin’s gift to the community that welcomed her, and her way of giving back by building up the next generation of confident, bilingual, faith-driven Arab youth.

Her story is the story of so many parents who want their kids to succeed in Canada—without losing who they are.

Today, Alnjoom continues to thrive under her leadership, helping children from all across the GTA read, write, speak, and live Arabic and Islam with joy, confidence, and pride.
